University of Maryland
College Park, MD, United States
The Joint Quantum Institute (JQI) and the Joint Center for Quantum Information and Computer Science (QuICS) -- both UMD/NIST partnerships -- host PhD researchers spanning trapped ions, superconducting qubits, neutral atoms, and quantum algorithms/complexity theory. UMD also hosts the National Quantum Laboratory (QLab), a commercial-grade trapped-ion user facility built on campus with IonQ, and offers a standalone, non-thesis Master of Science in Quantum Computing (30 credits, no prior quantum physics background required).
Faculty
Quantum many-body physics and quantum simulation at the interface of quantum optics and quantum information science, aimed at building and understanding large-scale quantum computers
